Post graduate studies

The career of agronomy has too many different specializations, such as economics, fruiticulture, edaphology, natural resources, animal production and others. What I would really like to study after receiving my university degree is economics because I really like the idea of working in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). I have an uncle who studied it at the Catholic University of Chile and he worked in FAO till he went on pension. I have to add that he studied agronomy before too so, why not? Nobody said that an agronomist just have to produce different kind of foods, he or she can also work in the sale and distribution of them. I would like to do a master in this subject abroad, maybe in England, the USA, Germany or Australia. I haven’t decided where to study it yet because is too early to start thinking about it right now, isn’t it? I would take a part time course if it’s possible so I will work and study abroad at the same time although it could be ex...

My future job

Image
When I was 13, I dreamed about studying medicine, but that changed when I was 15 because I wanted to study chemistry at the University of Chile or abroad. Then I changed my decision again because I wanted to study everything, for example: economy, engineering, chemistry, odontology and also education. I didn’t know what to study because I liked too many careers. Then, after receiving my PSU results, my mother asked me why I didn’t decide to study agronomy, like most of my relatives. Then I thought, ‘why not?’ because I really like the study and production of food and its commercialization. After studying agronomy, I would like to do a master in economy and work in an exportation company. I would like to work in an international enterprise or maybe in The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), jobs that require using other languages and also travelling. If I were in a job interview, I would say that I’m a responsible, hard-working person who speaks 3 languages a...

Videogames

Image
Introducing a little bit of myself, I think I was born playing video games. When I was 4 years old, I started playing some computer games at home. I used to buy some CD’s which contained  plays, where you use to match words with objects and that kind of things. I really liked playing them, although they were simple. Then, when I was 7 years old my brother received a PlayStation 1 and we used to play the games of Crash Bandicoot, specially the racing ones. Two years later, I received my first Nintendo DS lite with lots of games. I used to play Tetris , Mario Kart , Nintendogs and others. So you may know that I really like playing this video games. I like them because they are something enjoyable at home while taking a breath of studying and you can play them with other people too, so you can share some time with friends. I also like Sims 3 , that’s not so old and you can play it with the computer. In this game you can create a family and control their behavior, buy some houses a...

Movies

Image
Well, first I have to admit that I’m not so good at watching movies, but the kind of films that I like are the art cinema ones, like one of my favourite movies: Amelie . The first time I watched this film was when I was 6 years old and I didn’t understand much except for the good music it has. When I grew up I started to understand this cool movie, like the vision the protagonist gives to the audience, like making her close friend’s and family’s life a little bit better in an innocent way. One of the best things about this movie is its background music, from the musician Yann Tiersen. Its music made me feel relaxed and happy at the same time. If I have to choose a favourite actor, I’ll choose Daniel Radcliffe, because of his way playing the role of Harry Potter, the movie based on the book of J.K Rowling and if I have to choose a good director, I’ll choose Chris Wedge, who directed the film Ice Age , other favourite movie I could watch till today. I recommend you to watch this mo...

The best holidays I've ever had

Image
My holidays in Austria last year were amazing. I was just 17 years old and I went there with one of my best friends called Catalina. We went to Vienna, the capital city. We stayed in a youth hostel in the city center where we had a bedroom for two persons and early breakfast. In our first day we went to the Schönbrunn palace that had one of the biggest gardens I could have ever seen. We bought some tickets and we also had a tour through the palace, which was one of the first castles that installed electric light in Europe. We took some photos of the place and that day we ate some sandwiches at lunch while looking at the Karl’s church too. One day in our adventure in Austria, we went to the Prater amusement park where the Riesenrad is located. It is a wheel of fortune that is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. In those holidays I felt that I grew up a little bit having to take decisions on my own, in addition that I had a good time.

A country I'd like to visit

Image
When I was a child, I always dreamed about travelling abroad, meeting different people and learning new languages. For too many years I learned german and english, and when I was 17 I finally went to Germany and did a student exchange. I thought it was the most beautiful country I visited in Europe, so I would like to go there again a million times if it is required, because I have some german and chilean friends living there who I will visit someday. I would like to go to Germany to do a student exchange again, but this time at the Heidelberg University, that is near the city of Frankfurt. There I want to improve my german and english in addition to learn some subjects of my career, agronomy. Apart of Germany, I would love to go to Spain and walk through the way of Santiago de Compostela, where people can do a long walk through the path.

My name is Antonia and I’m 18 years old. I study the career of Agronomy at the University of Chile in Santiago de Chile. I chose this career because I like large-scale production of animals and vegetables and I also like the exportation of those products. In this blog I’d like to write about edible products, some of their advantages and also its importance in human life.
